An exciting new project

Like every other person working in the performing arts, the past few months have been about trying to envision how to do what we do in this new paradigm. I don’t yet have clarity on the whole picture, but I do have a new project that I am excited about. My mission regarding shining light on women composers has a new expression, in the form of a project called “Piano Music, She Wrote”, a collaboration with my Amercian friend and colleague, pianist Erica Sipes. In the name of making it easier for pianists of all levels to find music written for their instrument by women, we are launching this project on August 15, 2020, on YouTube.

Erica and I have combed through the wonderful and vast online music library known as imslp, and found approximately 340 female composers who wrote for solo piano. There are over 2,400 individual piano pieces. We have been making our way through these pieces, choosing some of the most beautiful ones to share with you, dear music-lover. Every week new videos will be posted, along with biographical info on the composer (if it exists…many of the composers’ stories are unknown) and links to the scores on imslp.

Please take a look at our promo video, and subscribe to the “Piano Music, She Wrote” channel.
